The 2 Yagenji brothers are 2 of the best Koi breeders to deal with in the whole of Yamakoshi. They have a character which is second to none, both second generation and have really grasped the new koi industry.
The usual tradition where the elder son takes over the business has happened, but not to the extent of the younger brother having to leave the company. They share all day to day runnings of Yagenji Koi Farm, and both have the same input into the business. It is a very busy place aswell, breeding many varieties such as Shiro Utsuri, Gin Rin Showa, Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Chagoi, Ochiba, Doitsu Chagoi, Ochiba, Soragoi...etc etc. They now have over 100 mudponds, more if you include the tosai ponds. They are on course to get bigger and bigger.
Daisuke who is the older brother left school and became a chef, and it was Toshinori (Tokko) who went into the koi business with his father Yaiichi. It wasn’t until they became more busy that Daisuke came back to learn the trade with his father and younger brother. Toshinori also leanrt alot of his trade at Sakai Fish Farms in Hirosima when he was 18 years old, Daisuke also getting vital experience at Momotaro Fish Farm when he was around 22.
This has given them the edge that they needed, and now they are one of the most successful breeders in Niigata, never having koi for long, and selling all sizes, and all grades, there is always a coffee on hand for anyone who visits.
